This is a very basic album cover design. For some reason it was easier settling on the horiontal album title virtical artist name design than it was for the main graphic. Probably because this project was not going to feature a picture of the artist. (Yes I do my own album art) I started with a picture I had taken of a stick with a crack in it (sort of a modern art feel) but quickly decided I didn't like that so I moved on to the ground beside the stick and came up with this.
Well the "dirt shot" was a little too dreary looking. Later while on a bike ride I took this picutre of the late afaternoon sun. There were little bugs flying around in the light, they looked like glowing somethings--it looked cool. So I decided to use it. Much better!
The next step was some color balance to make the picture a little more inviting and warm. I also drop shadow on the artist name and the stroke effect (of 1 or 2 pixels) on the album title. It's very stubtle but it makes the text stand out.
And finally for the Deluxe Edition cover...well you get the idea. Not bad for an audio guy, eh?
